UN calls for peace but Israel fights on

Israeli forces are continuing their relentless offensive in defiance of the UN Security Council that voted on Mon- day to demand an end to the fighting in Gaza. Last week Russia and People’s China, backed by Algeria, vetoed a bogus American peace proposal that they said was “an effective green light for Israel to mount a military operation in Rafah” where more than a million Palestinians are sheltering.

Freelancing Woes

Most of us are sick to death of watching some overpaid BBC journalist spouting utter nonsense, which in some cases is refuted by what is going on in the background. But spare a thought for those further down the journalistic food chain. These include freelance journalists who not only suffer from low pay, but are systematically denied any reward for their work even if it is reproduced many times after its original appearance.
